HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Peter
4(Piotr) Krystian Domaradzki, who tragically lost his life on
5November 4, 2015 at the age of 69; and
 
6    WHEREAS, This esteemed body has been notified of Peter
7Domaradzki's unfortunate passing by the Honorable
8Representatives of the 19th and 39th Districts, Robert Martwick
9and William Guzzardi; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Peter Domaradzki was born on June 21, 1946 in
11Strzelce Opolskie, Poland; he graduated from the University of
12Gdansk with a degree in military history and immigrated with
13his family to America in 1985; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Peter Domaradzki built a full and extraordinary
15life in Chicago, where he became the editor of the Dziennik
16Zwiazkowy newspaper; he was also a dedicated contributor to the
17online resource Wikipedia in both English and Polish; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Peter Domaradzki published the novel "Wiorki
19Kokosowe" (Coconut Shreds), which was published in Poland in
202003; among his historical treatises were "Homo Armatus:
21History of Warfare in Antiquity" (1979), "The Defense of Lwow"

1and "Polish Corps in Russia 1917-1919" (both published by
2Solidarity Press in 1981), and "General Anders and the Soldiers
3of the II Polish Corps" (2002); and
 
4    WHEREAS, Peter Domaradzki's numerous historical essays
5were a regular feature in Dziennik Zwiazkowy's weekly culture
6and entertainment section, Kalejdoskop (Kaleidoscope); and
 
7    WHEREAS, Peter Domaradzki was involved in the
8anti-communist opposition in Poland, being an active member of
9the Solidarity Trade Union; he continued his patriotic
10activities on behalf of Poland after gaining political asylum
11in the United States; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Peter Domaradzki was also a talented graphic
13artist and painter who was active in Chicago's visual art
14scene; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Peter Domaradzki is survived by his loving wife,
16Janina; his children, Sara and Krystian; his brother, Wojciech
17Gruszka; and his nephews, Maciej and Jacek Gruszka; therefore,
18be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21pause to pay tribute to the achievements of Peter Domaradzki

1and mourn his passing; and be it further
 
2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Peter Domaradzki as an expression of
4our sympathy.
