HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate William Nelson on the
4occasion of his retirement after 18 years as the Director of
5the Rock Island Parks and Recreation Department; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Under the leadership of William Nelson, numerous
7improvements were made, including the addition of Whitewater
8Junction Aquatic Park, 2 expansions of the Rock Island Fitness
9and Activity Center, the creation and operation of Schwiebert
10Riverfront Park, updates at the Highland Springs and Saukie
11golf courses, and the addition of Martin Luther King, Jr. Park
12and Rauch Park; the playgrounds and recreational amenities
13received welcome attention, including the Quad-Cities' first
14dog park, the pickleball courts, new tennis courts at Hodge
15Park, and the cutting-edge electronic playground at Schwiebert
16Park; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Thanks to William Nelson's commitment to Rock
18Island, residents have grown accustomed to its parks being a
19source of great pride to the city, and its recreation
20facilities have set a standard other communities strive to
21match; and
 
22    WHEREAS, William Nelson served on the board and chaired the

1Quad City Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Bi-State
2Riverfront Council, where he helped to attract and stage such
3events as Train Festival 2011 in Rock Island; he is a longtime
4member of the Quad City Botanical Center Board, where he was a
5staunch supporter of the Children's Garden expansion; and
 
6    WHEREAS, William Nelson's retirement will be official in
7April of 2016; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10congratulate William Nelson on his retirement after 18 years as
11the Director of the Rock Island Parks and Recreation
12Department, and we wish him the best in all his future
13endeavors; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to William Nelson as an expression of our esteem and
16respect.
