HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Louis
4"Joe Lou Darling" Stevenson, who passed away on January 18,
52016; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Louis Stevenson was born in Hollandale,
7Mississippi to Miles Edward and LeeAnna Stevenson on May 12,
81952; his family moved to Chicago in 1969 and he graduated from
9Wendell Phillips High School; he married Theresa Davis on March
103, 1973 and enlisted in the United Marine Corps that same year;
11he achieved the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged
12in May of 1983; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Louis Stevenson attended McCoy Barber College and
14became the owner and operator of Lord n' Lou's Barber Shop in
15Dolton; after he retired, he worked as a lead barber with his
16nephews at TNT Barber Shop in Chicago; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Louis Stevenson was a gifted artist; as a special
18tribute to his brother, Jerry, and his mother, LeAnna, he drew
19a mural on the backsplash of the baptismal pool of the New Hope
20Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, which can still be viewed
21today; and

1    WHEREAS, Louis Stevenson married his longtime friend and
2soul mate, Tawanna, on April 29, 2014; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Louis Stevenson was preceded in death by his
4brother, Jerry; his mother, LeAnna Stevenson; his daughter,
5Pamela; his father, Miles Edward Stevenson; and his sisters,
6Mildred and Velma; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Louis Stevenson is survived by his daughters,
8Tamela (Terry), Elaine (Maurice), and Karema (Wayne); his son,
9Jerry; his stepdaughter, Kierra; his sisters, Nellie (Dennis)
10Speed, Dorothy Smith, Olivia Williams, and Betty Stevenson; his
11brothers, James (Gloria) Stevenson and Charles (Maxine)
12Stevenson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and
13friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16mourn the passing of Louis "Joe Lou Darling" Stevenson, and
17extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
18who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Louis Stevenson as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
