HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Ellen Shepard on the
4occasion of her retirement as Executive Director of the
5Andersonville Chamber of Commerce after 16 years of service;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ellen Shepard has been Executive Director of the
8Andersonville Chamber of Commerce and the Andersonville
9Development Corporation in Chicago's Andersonville
10neighborhood since 1999; and
 
11    WHEREAS, When Ellen Shepard joined the Andersonville
12Chamber of Commerce it was a one-person operation; under her
13leadership, the Andersonville neighborhood has become one of
14the foremost communities in the United States using
15localization and environmental sustainability as economic
16development strategies; she spearheaded the growth of Chamber
17programs and the creation of the Andersonville Development
18Corporation; Andersonville now hosts over a dozen special
19events each year; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Prior to joining the Andersonville Chamber of
21Commerce, Ellen Shepard was a public relations and marketing
22consultant for organizations, including the Chicago Department

1of Housing and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation; her
2experience with small businesses began at the League of Chicago
3Theatres, where she provided technical assistance to arts
4organizations; she spent a decade before that as a stage
5manager and technician on assorted Chicago stages; she has a
6Master of Arts in Urban Studies from Loyola University; she
7enjoys singing in a variety of folk and jazz groups and playing
8the banjo; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Ellen Shepard will officially be leaving the
10Andersonville Chamber of Commerce in March of 2016; therefore,
11be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14congratulate Ellen Shepard on her retirement as Executive
15Director of the Andersonville Chamber of Commerce after 16
16years of service; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Ellen Shepard as an expression of our esteem and
19respect.
