HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Edward Anton Karasek on
4the occasion of his retirement from the Berwyn Park District
5Board of Commissioners after 50 years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Edward Karasek has been an elected member of the
7Board since April of 1966; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Over his 50 years of service to the District,
9Edward Karasek has served as Board President twice and
10currently serves as Board Secretary, a position he has held for
11many years; he currently serves as Chairman of the Finance
12Committee and is a member of the Building and Grounds
13committee; he previously served as the voting delegate for the
14former Suburban Risk Management Agency and subsequently the
15Park District Risk Management Agency; he attended the Illinois
16Association of Park District annual conference and the
17Legislative Conference, where he utilized his experience and
18personal relationships developed over the years with
19legislators to support park district and recreation
20initiatives; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Edward Karasek volunteers with the Proksa Park
22Garden Club and works daily to help maintain the Children's

1Garden located in the Proksa Park's Teeter Center area; he has
2been a continuous member of the local Parent Teacher
3Association since 1958, and, along with his wife of 60 years,
4Mary, takes a continued interest in the education of toddlers
5through local college-age students; his expertise and
6understanding of finance helped the Berwyn Park District
7weather the financial downturn that affected the economy; he is
8often quoted in the local paper for his comments and
9suggestions made at local school, city, and other public
10meetings; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Edward Karasek has been a member of the Kiwanis
12Club of Berwyn since 1952 and is one of the few members that
13can boast a perfect attendance record; during his tenure with
14the Kiwanis Club of Berwyn, he has served as President,
15Vice-President, Special Projects Chairman, and has served on
16the Board of Directors numerous times; his tireless efforts in
17helping to raise funds have allowed the club to donate more
18than $550,000 back to charities, agencies, and organizations in
19the Berwyn area; this includes the donation of furnishings for
20the community room at the Berwyn Public Library, donations to
21the Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts, the Special Olympics, park
22district programs, and many others; and
 
23    WHEREAS, Edward Karasek is a charter member of the Berwyn
24Development Corporation since March 14, 1983 and has served as

1President and Vice-President with distinction; he is also
2involved in other civic organizations and groups such as the
3All Berwyn Committee, where he serves on the Board of
4Directors; he is a former member of the Berwyn Home Owners
5Association and is an active member of the Democratic Committee
6of Berwyn; and
 
7    WHEREAS, In 2011, Edward Karasek was awarded the
8distinguished Commissioner of the Year award by the Illinois
9Association of Park Districts at the annual conference in
10Chicago; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Edward Karasek was employed with a Berwyn
12automobile dealer and handled many of the office-related
13business and finance duties; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Edward Karasek has indisputably made and
15continues to make immeasurable differences in the quality of
16life of the residents of the Berwyn Park District and the City
17of Berwyn; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
20congratulate Edward Anton Karasek on his retirement from the
21Berwyn Park District Board of Commissioners after 50 years, and
22we wish him the best in all of his future endeavors; and be it
