HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. James
4A. Waldorf; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was born in East Moline to James "Roy"
6and Lois Waldorf; he served the Chicagoland area through many
7forms of community service; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was Dean and Assistant Principal at
9Proviso East High School from 1963 to 1978 and then Principal
10at Plainfield Central High School from 1978 to 1993; he served
11as Assistant Superintendent from 1993 to 1994 and as Principal
12at St. Mary Immaculate Parish School from 1994 to 2006; he was
13the Mayor of Plainfield from 2005 to 2009; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was essential in keeping Plainfield
15Central High School's responsibilities to its students after
16its building was destroyed in the tornado of 1990; he was
17responsible for leading the high school community and the
18relocation of the student body to the former Carmelite boys'
19high school in Joliet, which housed the students from
20Plainfield for several years until their new high school could
21be constructed; and

1    WHEREAS, Soon after Plainfield Central High School was
2opened, Dr. Waldorf left public education and was hired on as
3Principal of the newly rebuilt St. Mary Immaculate Parish
4School; in doing so, he played a major part in the construction
5of both Plainfield's private and public high school systems;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was also heavily involved within the
8communities he taught; he was President of the Plainfield
9Rotary, an avid member of the Knights of Columbus, and
10President of the Plainfield Food Pantry; he served on the YMCA
11Board for 15 years and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of
12Plainfield; he was also active within Mainstreet Plainfield;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf was a very warm individual known
15throughout the communities he served and will be remembered for
16his consistent offering of a grand smile and heartfelt "Good
17Morning"; his devotion to Plainfield's children, their
18families, and their education, as well as his various other
19services to the community will always be remembered fondly; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Dr. Waldorf leaves behind his beloved wife of 27
21years, Mary Ann, their children, Rhea (James) Scheuing, Nicola
22Waldorf, Michael (Jennifer) LaMontagna, and Joseph (Jamie)
23LaMontagna, and their grandchildren Dane, Brenna, Maura, Ava,

1and Franco; he was also the dear brother of Michael and
2Christine and the fond uncle to numerous nieces and nephews;
3therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6mourn the passing of Dr. James A. Waldorf, and extend our
7sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
8and loved him; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Dr. Waldorf as an expression of our
11deepest sympathy.
