HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, In 2015, an estimated 48,960 people will be
3diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the United States; 40,560
4of these people will die from the disease; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers;
6it is currently the fourth leading cause of cancer death in the
7United States and is projected to become the second by 2020;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is the only major cancer with a
105-year relative survival rate in the single digits at just 7%;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, When symptoms of pancreatic cancer present
13themselves, it is generally late stage; 73% of pancreatic
14cancer patients die within the first year of their diagnosis,
15while 93% of pancreatic cancer patients die within the first 5
16years; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Approximately 1,640 deaths from pancreatic cancer
18will occur in Illinois in 2015; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Pancreatic cancer is the seventh most common cause
20of cancer-related death in men and women across the world;

1there will be an estimated 367,000 new pancreatic cancer cases
2diagnosed globally in 2015; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The good health and well-being of the residents of
4State of Illinois are enhanced as a direct result of increased
5awareness about pancreatic cancer and research into early
6detection, causes, and effective treatments; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9designate November 13, 2015 as World Pancreatic Cancer Day in
10the State of Illinois in recognition of this disease and its
11effects on the citizens of this State.
