HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Terrence P. Fitzmaurice
4on the occasion of his retirement as Business
5Manager/Secretary-Treasurer of Painters' District Council #14
6Local Union 194; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Terrence Fitzmaurice was initiated into Painters'
8District Council #14 Local Union 194 on November 5, 1978; he
9began his apprenticeship at Ruffalo Painting while attending
10Washburne Trade School, where he graduated in 1981; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Terrence Fitzmaurice began working with the City
12of Chicago at O'Hare International Airport in 1982; as a
13painter with the City, he advanced to the position of Foreman
14for the Painters at O'Hare; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Terrence Fitzmaurice has been active in his Local
16since becoming a member; throughout the years, he has served as
17a Conductor, Trustee, Vice President, and President of Local
18Union 194; because of his dedication with the City and his
19Local, he became a Business Representative for Painters'
20District Council #14 on September 29, 1989; while holding this
21position, he helped many members with numerous issues, such as
22finding work, problems with contractors, collecting wages or

1benefits due to them, and negotiating contracts; and
 
2    WHEREAS, On January 1, 2005, Terrence Fitzmaurice became
3the Business Manager/Secretary-Treasurer of Painters' District
4Council #14; since taking this position, he has decreased the
5retirement age for painters and tapers, started a newsletter
6for the members, negotiated new collective bargaining
7agreements to help put members back to work, and started the
8Safety Training Award Recognition program; he also took the
9Local in a new direction by having all Organizers, Business
10Representatives, and the Local's Apprenticeship School become
11more involved in their community through projects such as
12Rebuilding Together, volunteer work at Misericordia, police
13stations and fire departments, and many other community
14projects; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Terrence Fitzmaurice serves as a Trustee for the
16Chicago Building Trades; he is also a member of the Chicago
17Federation of Labor's Executive Board and a Trustee of the
18Chicago Painters and Decorators Welfare and Pension Fund; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Terrence Fitzmaurice was the chief architect of
20Illinois Senate Bill 1281, which created corrosion prevention
21standards throughout the State of Illinois; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Terrence Fitzmaurice serves as a model of hard

1work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
2Illinois; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
5congratulate Terrence P. Fitzmaurice on the occasion of his
6retirement and wish him continued success and happiness in the
7future; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Terrence Fitzmaurice as a symbol of our esteem and
10respect.
