HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Cecelia Cukla Olejniczak
4on the occasion of her 90th birthday; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Cecelia Olejniczak was born in Chicago on August
615, 1925 to Joseph and Julia Cukla; she attended St. Joseph's
7Grammar School and Resurrection High School, where she
8performed a piano concert to raise money for the Red Cross to
9help troops during World War II and won a contest for her vocal
10talents; and
 
11    WHEREAS, After graduation from high school, Cecelia
12Olejniczak continued entertaining with many well-known
13orchestras in the Chicagoland area; she also worked in the
14family bakery, which was known as the Original Tasty Bakery in
15Chicago; she began attending college in 1944 to work on a
16musical degree; and
 
17    WHEREAS, At her mother's request, Cecelia Olejniczak wrote
18letters to Joseph Olejniczak, a soldier in World War II, and 2
19years later in 1946, they married; they moved to Oak Lawn in
201950, where they raised their 9 children; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Cecelia Olejniczak became an active parishioner

1at St. Gerald Church, where she was part of the choir and a
2substitute organist; in 1952, she became the full-time organist
3at St. Gerald and St. Albert the Great; she also taught piano
4and the organ and gave vocal lessons in her home throughout her
590 years; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Cecelia Olejniczak was at one time the Musical
7Director of St. Gerald Church and President of the St. Gerald
8Altar and Rosary Society; she earned a Certificate in Church
9Liturgy and an Associate Degree in Church Music from St. Joseph
10College in Indiana during the 1980s; in 1992, she earned her
11Bachelor of Arts in Music from St. Xavier's University in
12Chicago; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Cecelia Olejniczak received a Lifetime
14Achievement Award in 2009 for over 50 years of serving as Music
15Director at St. Gerald Church; and
 
 
16    WHEREAS, Cecelia Olejniczak crochets baby blankets for
17newborn babies and hats for cancer patients at Advocate Christ
18Medical Center; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Cecelia Olejniczak is the proud mother of 9;
20grandmother of 24; and great-grandmother of 27; therefore, be

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3that we congratulate Cecelia Cukla Olejniczak on her 90th
4birthday and we wish her many more wonderful years; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Cecelia Olejniczak as an expression of our esteem
8and respect.
