HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Bettye
4Jeanette Hathaway Rivers; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bettye Rivers was born on May 29, 1933 in Chicago;
6her parents were Quinella and Walter Hathaway; she married
7Grady Alexander Rivers, Sr. on December 18, 1956; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bettye Rivers attended and graduated from
9Washington Elementary and Proviso East High School in Maywood;
10while in school, she was a participant in many cross country
11races and other sports; and
 
12    WHEREAS, After graduation, Bettye Rivers was employed at
13Chulock's Drug Store and the GTE Automatic Electric Company,
14where she worked until her retirement; she also sponsored the
15young people's choir at Second Baptist Church and was noted for
16her attendance at all Proviso East High School Sports events,
17especially basketball; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Bettye Rivers faithfully attended the Second
19Baptist Church and served as a Junior Choir member, a Gospel
20Choir member, BYPU, Kitchen Committee member, and Choir
21Sponsor; and

1    WHEREAS, Bettye Rivers was preceded in death by her
2parents; 4 sisters, Mabel, Lucille, Colleen, and Bernice; and a
3brother, Walter (Watson) Hathaway; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bettye Rivers is survived by 2 sons, Grady
5(Glenda) Alexander and Glenn (Kris) Anton; 8 grandchildren,
6Jeremiah, Callie, Glynis, Austin, Spencer, Gaylen, Adam, and
7Patrick; a sister, Gwen Franklin; 3 sisters-in-law, Marcia,
8Alice, and Ouida; a brother-in-law, James (Patsy) Brewer; her
9many nieces, nephews, and cousins; her special friends,
10Jeanette Rembert, the Burton sisters, Mildred Sykes, and many
11more; and her beloved Second Baptist Church family; therefore,
12be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of
16Bettye Jeanette Hathaway Rivers; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Bettye Rivers as an expression of
19our sympathy.
