HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The United States consistently ranks among the
3lowest performing educational systems, especially in the
4subjects of math and science; one brilliant high school teacher
5is combating these statistics, one life at a time; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Mark Butcher has been teaching at Rochester High
7School for 24 years, following 14 years of work at the St.
8John's Hospital Laboratory; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mark Butcher continues to inspire hundreds of
10young minds with his hands-on approach to the subjects of
11physics and mathematics, always utilizing engaging and
12creative teaching methods; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Mark Butcher's devotion has been formally
14recognized through being designated as The Voice Top Teacher of
152015; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Mark Butcher serves as both friend and mentor to
17his students, from stopping kids in the hallway to shake their
18hand and wish them a good day to tutoring students, whether
19they were enrolled in his classes or not, and always giving
20college advice; and

1    WHEREAS, Mark Butcher has encouraged every young person he
2encountered to follow his or her dreams, often cutting out
3newspaper articles and asking students to sign them for when
4they become famous; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mark Butcher is clearly an exemplary teacher,
6always going above and beyond in his dedication to students; he
7invests his wisdom and encouragement in the next generation,
8even on weekends; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Mark Butcher also helped craft Rochester's dual
10credit program, where students can save essential money and
11time before entering higher education programs; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mark Butcher has lived his life as a Christian man
13who has raised his children, and treated every other child,
14with these very same values, obtaining the greatest respect of
15students and staff alike; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18join in honoring the tremendous legacy of Mark Butcher, who
19recognizes and contributes to the unique potential of every
20young life he encounters; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That we thank Mark Butcher's wife, Brenda

2so graciously sharing him with the Rochester community; and be

4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to Mark Butcher as a symbol of our esteem and
6respect.
