HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Jesse M. Campbell, age 37, is an American
3Thoroughbred horse racing jockey who resides in Barrington and
4grew up in Lake Zurich; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jesse Campbell achieved a rare professional
6milestone on May 18, 2015, when he won his 2,000th race aboard
7Sweet Grass Creek at Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada,
8adding to a career earnings total that fewer than 100 jockeys
9in the history of the sport have attained; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jesse Campbell has more than 2,000 second-place
11and more than 2,000 third-place finishes in a distinguished
12career that includes the 2013 first-place finish aboard
13Midnight Aria in the Queen's Plate, which is renowned as
14"Canada's Kentucky Derby"; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Jesse Campbell comes from a four-generation horse
16racing family, which includes his twin brother Joel Campbell, a
17Chicago-area businessman who also professionally rides
18Thoroughbreds and has 780 jockey wins, and his father Michael
19Campbell, a horse trainer who currently serves as president of
20the Illinois Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jesse Campbell began his professional riding

1career at age 17 in 1995, winning his first race on July 20 of
2that year aboard Apostle Island, a horse trained by his father
3and bred by his grandfather, at Arlington Park Racetrack in
4Illinois; he quickly gained notoriety the following season as
5"Apprentice Rider of the Year" at Hawthorne Park Racetrack;
6nearly 20 years later, he was blessed to have his wife, Allyson
7Campbell, his daughter, Madison Campbell, and his mother,
8Janice Campbell, in attendance to celebrate his 2,000th victory
9at Woodbine; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate Jesse Campbell on the occasion of entering that
13elite status of Thoroughbred jockeys to have won 2,000 races
14and wish him continued success in the future; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Jesse Campbell as a symbol of our esteem and
17respect.
