HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Joe Kanosky on the
4occasion of his retirement as President and CEO of Highland
5Community College; and
 
6    WHEREAS, From 1971 to 1973, Joe Kanosky worked in road
7construction and dabbled in the insurance industry; from 1973
8to 1978, he was a high school English teacher and football and
9track coach in the Galesburg area; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Joe Kanosky earned his bachelor's degree in
11English from Western Illinois University in 1971; from 1978 to
121981, he was a full time graduate student at Illinois State
13University in Normal, where he earned both his MSEd. and Ph.D.
14in Educational Administration and Foundations; and
 
15    WHEREAS, During his tenure at Illinois State University,
16Joe Kanosky served as graduate research assistant for Alan
17Hickrod and Ben Hubbard in the areas of school finance and the
18politics of education; during his graduate study years, he
19spent the summer of 1980 at Educational Testing Service in
20Princeton, New Jersey as a graduate research fellow in
21education politics; he presented his research results at the
22spring 1981 AERA Conference in Los Angeles, California; and

1    WHEREAS, In the fall of 1981, Joe Kanosky went to Highland
2Community College, where he has held a variety of positions in
3the areas of student services, instructional program
4administration, community service, and economic development;
5he has been a Director, an Associate Dean, and a Dean; he
6served as Vice President for Student and Community Services
7from 2000 to 2003 and Vice President for Institutional and
8Community Development from 2003 until November of 2005, when he
9was named acting President; he was then selected as Highland's
10seventh President in June of 2006; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Joe Kanosky served on the Freeport School Board
12for almost 8 years, with 2 of those years as board president;
13while on the school board, he served as a member of the school
14district's Equity Steering Committee and continues as a member
15of the Key Communicators Committee; he holds a position on 2
16Workforce Investment Boards which serve northern Illinois and
17is a member of the board of the Tri-County Economic Development
18Alliance; he also serves on the boards of the Boys and Girls
19Club and State Bank of Freeport and is a member of the Freeport
20Noon Rotary; he was previously on the board of directors of the
21Freeport Area Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Illinois
22Development Alliance; and
 
23    WHEREAS, Joe Kanosky is a member of the Illinois Council of

1Community College Presidents and has shared his expertise on
2leadership and core values at the Illinois Council of Community
3College Administrators conference on several occasions; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Joe Kanosky and his wife, Jennifer, have been in
5Freeport since the fall of 1981; together, they have 2 grown
6children, Andrew and Alison; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Joe Kanosky serves as a model of hard work,
8integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
9Illinois; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12congratulate Joe Kanosky on the occasion of his retirement and
13wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be
14it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to Joe Kanosky as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
