HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Gail D. Mitchell on the
4occasion of his retirement after 20 years of dedicated service
5as Mayor of the City of Fairview Heights; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Gail Mitchell was born in 1937 in East St. Louis;
7he was raised in Ava before moving back to East St. Louis in
81953, where he resided until he moved and settled in Fairview
9Heights; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Prior to becoming Mayor of the City of Fairview
11Heights, Gail Mitchell was employed by the General Motors
12Corporation from 1956 until his retirement in November of 1987;
13and
 
14    WHEREAS, In 1983, Gail Mitchell was elected to serve as
15Fairview Heights' Ward 3 Alderman, serving in that capacity
16until 1987; he was re-elected as Alderman in 1991 and
17subsequently served a second 4-year term, serving there until
18he ran for and successfully gained the office of Mayor of the
19City of Fairview Heights in 1995; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Gail Mitchell was re-elected as Mayor of the City
21of Fairview Heights in April of 1999; he is currently serving

1his third term after being re-elected in April of 2003; and
 
2    WHEREAS, While serving the citizens of Fairview Heights as
3their Mayor, Gail Mitchell has been very active in many local
4organizations; he served as President of the Southwestern
5Illinois Council of Mayors from 2001 to 2003; he also served as
6Vice President of the Illinois Municipal League Board; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Gail Mitchell and his wife of 48 years, Vera, have
8been residents of Fairview Heights since October of 1963; Gail
9and Vera have 4 children and 8 grandchildren; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Gail Mitchell serves as a model of hard work,
11integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
12Illinois; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15congratulate Gail D. Mitchell on the occasion of his retirement
16and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and
17be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to Gail Mitchell as a symbol of our esteem and
20respect.
