HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Alfred
4Edward "Buddy" Watson of Chicago, who passed away on December
520, 2014; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Alfred Watson was born in Halls, Tennessee on
7August 25, 1934 to Joseph Lewis and Mary Ella (nee Roundtree)
8Watson; he graduated from Lauderdale County High School in
9Tennessee and attended Tennessee State University; he studied
10at Central YMCA College in Chicago for real estate law, sales,
11and management, and then at Loop College (now Harold Washington
12College) for urban development in real estate; he married Naomi
13Lawrence on April 21, 1957; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Alfred Watson began his career working for the
15Chicago Transit Authority; he was Vice-President of Real Estate
16at the Supreme Life Insurance Company of America for 11 years,
17Life Safety Inspector for the Cook County Department of
18Education for 4 years, and Deputy Commissioner in the
19Department of Building and Zoning; he retired in 2011; he
20served in Cook County Government for 28 years; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Alfred Watson was active in Democratic politics;
22he was Precinct Captain for the 4th Ward Democratic

1Organization, President of the 4th Ward Young Democratic
2Organization, Central Area Chairman of the Young Democrats of
3Illinois, and the Advisor to the 8th Ward Committeeman; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Alfred Watson was a member of Antioch Missionary
5Baptist Church and then Life Center C.O.G.I.C.; he could often
6be seen spending time with neighbors, snow blowing, and mowing
7his lawn with his dog, Bullet; he enjoyed dressing up as Santa
8to entertain children during Christmas; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Alfred Watson was preceded in death by his
10parents; his son, Cleve Watson; and his 2 siblings, Dr. Ruby
11Watson-Jackson and Dr. Charles E. Watson; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Alfred Watson is survived by his wife of 57 years,
13Naomi; his 4 children, Toya Medford-Rainer, Crystal Mock,
14Alfred (Beverly) Watson, and Joseph (Jamilah) Watson; his 12
15grandchildren; his 11 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Dr.
16L. Marilyn Watson and Dr. Marian L. Watson; his sister-in-law,
17Parthenia L. Manning; and a host of nieces and nephews;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
21mourn the passing of Alfred Edward "Buddy" Watson, and extend
22our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
3presented to the family of Alfred Watson as an expression of
4our deepest sympathy.
