HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, It is necessary to recognize those who are
3dedicated to the betterment of the State of Illinois and their
4communities; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edward Royce "Fast Eddie" Sholar, Sr. was born on
6August 16, 1953 at Scott Air Force Base hospital in St. Clair
7County; his parents were Dexter and Norma (nee Schelle) Sholar;
8and
 
9    WHEREAS, Edward Sholar, Sr. graduated from Alton High
10School in 1971; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Edward Sholar, Sr. was the owner and operator of
12numerous businesses in and around the City of Alton, most
13notably Fast Eddie's Bon Air; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Edward Sholar, Sr. was known to be a generous and
15giving man and an icon for Alton and the region; and
 
16    WHEREAS, It is fitting to dedicate the portion of Broadway
17from Washington Avenue to Monument Street in Alton in honor of
18Edward Royce Sholar, Sr.; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
2SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate the portion of
3Broadway from Washington Avenue to Monument Street in Alton as
4"Fast Eddie Way" in honor of Edward Royce "Fast Eddie" Sholar,
5Sr.; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
7is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
8State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
9giving notice of the name of "Fast Eddie Way"; and be it
10further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12presented to the Secretary of Transportation and the family of
13Edward Royce Sholar, Sr.
