SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-506 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Allows the spouse of a deceased military service member who was issued military oriented special plates to retain the plates so long as that spouse is a resident of Illinois and transfers the registration to his or her name within 180 days of the death of the service member. Defines the term, "service member".

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5Section 3-506 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-506 new)
7    Sec. 3-506. Transfer of plates to spouses of military
8service members. Upon the death of a military service member
9who has been issued special plates under Section 3-609.1,
103-620, 3-621, 3-622, 3-623, 3-624, 3-625, 3-626, 3-628, 3-638,
113-642, 3-645, 3-647, 3-650, 3-651, 3-666, 3-667, 3-668, 3-669,
123-676, 3-677, 3-680, 3-681, 3-683, 3-686, 3-688, 3-693, 3-698,
13or 3-699.12 of this Code, the surviving spouse of that service
14member may retain the plate so long as that spouse is a
15resident of Illinois and transfers the registration to his or
16her name within 180 days of the death of the service member.
17    For the purposes of this Section, "service member" means
18any individual who is serving or has served in any branch of
19the United States Armed Forces, including the National Guard or
20other reserve components of the Armed Forces, and has been
21issued a special plate listed in this Section.
