SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act
50 ILCS 705/10.6 new

    Creates the Law Enforcement Agency Report of Officer Firearm Discharge Act. Provides that each law enforcement agency shall report to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board any time a law enforcement officer discharges his or her firearm within 7 days of the officer submitting his or her report to the law enforcement agency indicating that the officer discharged his or her service firearm in the performance of the officer's official duties. Amends the Illinois Police Training Act. Provides that the Executive Director of the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board shall submit semi-annual reports to the Governor, President and Minority Leader of the Senate, and to the Speaker and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives beginning within 6 months after the effective date of the amendatory Act, indicating the number of law enforcement officers who discharged their service firearms in the performance of their official duties.

1    AN ACT concerning law enforcement.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Law
5Enforcement Agency Report of Officer Firearm Discharge Act.
 
6    Section 5. Definitions. As used in this Act:
7    "Law enforcement agency" means an agency of this State or
8unit of local government which is vested by law or ordinance
9with the duty to maintain public order and to enforce criminal
10laws or ordinances.
11    "Law enforcement officer" means any officer, agent, or
12employee of this State or a unit of local government authorized
13by law or by a government agency to engage in or supervise the
14prevention, detection, or investigation of any violation of
15criminal law, or authorized by law to supervise sentenced
16criminal offenders.
 
17    Section 10. Law enforcement agency report law enforcement
18officer discharge of firearms. Each law enforcement agency
19shall report to the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards
20Board any time a law enforcement officer discharges his or her
21firearm within 7 days of the officer submitting his or her
22report to the law enforcement agency indicating that the

3    Section 105. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by
4adding Section 10.6 as follows:

6    Sec. 10.6. Semi-annual reports. The Executive Director of
7the Board shall submit semi-annual reports to the Governor,
8President and Minority Leader of the Senate, and to the Speaker
9and Minority Leader of the House of Representatives beginning
10within 6 months after the effective date of this amendatory Act
11of the 99th General Assembly, indicating the number of law

13the performance of their official duties.
