SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2805/11 new

    Amends the Department of Veterans Affairs Act. Requires the Department of Veterans' Affairs, in consultation with the Human Rights Commission, to inform State residents who are veterans, members of the Armed Forces of the United States, members of the Illinois National Guard, or members of any reserve component of the Armed Forces of the United States that any employer who refuses to hire a prospective employee on the basis of military status commits an act of unlawful discrimination in violation of the Illinois Human Rights Act and is subject to civil penalties as provided under that Act. Grants the Department rulemaking authority to implement this provision.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Veterans Affairs Act is
5amended by adding Section 11 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 2805/11 new)
7    Sec. 11. Unlawful discrimination in employment. The
8Department, in consultation with the Human Rights Commission,
9shall inform State residents who are veterans, members of the
10Armed Forces of the United States, members of the Illinois
11National Guard, or members of any reserve component of the
12Armed Forces of the United States that any employer who refuses
13to hire a prospective employee on the basis of military status
14commits an act of unlawful discrimination in violation of the
15Illinois Human Rights Act and is subject to civil penalties as
16provided under that Act. The Department shall adopt any rules
17necessary to implement this Section.
