    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that the provisions governing size, weight, and load do not apply to fire apparatus used for demonstration purposes and not owned or operated by a governmental body.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 15-101 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/15-101)  (from Ch. 95 1/2, par. 15-101)
7    Sec. 15-101. Scope and effect of Chapter 15.
8    (a) It is unlawful for any person to drive or move on, upon
9or across or for the owner to cause or knowingly permit to be
10driven or moved on, upon or across any highway any vehicle or
11vehicles of a size and weight exceeding the limitations stated
12in this Chapter or otherwise in violation of this Chapter, and
13the maximum size and weight of vehicles herein specified shall
14be lawful throughout this State, and local authorities shall
15have no power or authority to alter such limitations except as
16express authority may be granted in this Chapter.
17    (b) The provisions of this Chapter governing size, weight
18and load do not apply to fire apparatus used for demonstration
19purposes not owned or operated by a governmental body, to fire
20apparatus or equipment for snow and ice removal operations
21owned or operated by any governmental body, or to implements of
22husbandry, as defined in Chapter 1 of this Code, temporarily
23operated or towed in a combination upon a highway provided such

1combination does not consist of more than 3 vehicles or, in the
2case of hauling fresh, perishable fruits or vegetables from
3farm to the point of first processing, not more than 3 wagons
4being towed by an implement of husbandry, or to a vehicle
5operated under the terms of a special permit issued hereunder.
6    (c) The provisions of this Chapter governing size, weight,
7and load do not apply to any snow and ice removal equipment
8that is no more than 12 feet in width, if the equipment
9displays flags at least 18 inches square mounted on the
10driver's side of the snow plow.
11    These vehicles must be equipped with an illuminated
12rotating, oscillating, or flashing amber light or lights, or a
13flashing amber strobe light or lights, mounted on the top of
14the cab and of sufficient intensity to be visible at 500 feet
15in normal sunlight. If the load on the transport vehicle blocks
16the visibility of the amber lighting from the rear of the
17vehicle, the vehicle must also be equipped with an illuminated
18rotating, oscillating, or flashing amber light or lights, or a
19flashing amber strobe light or lights, mounted on the rear of
20the load and of sufficient intensity to be visible at 500 feet
21in normal sunlight.
