SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Edward Carl Moehle of Pekin, who passed
4away on September 13, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edward Moehle was born on December 7, 1925 in
6Okawville; his parents were Walter August and Minna Elizabeth
7(nee Miche) Moehle; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Edward Moehle served his country as a member of
9the United States Army during World War II, serving in the
10Pacific Theater as chief clerk at the headquarters of General
11Douglas MacArthur; he also worked for the International
12Military Tribunal of the Far East in Tokyo, Japan and attained
13the rank of staff sergeant; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Edward Moehle earned his Bachelor of Science
15degree in Business Administration and his Juris Doctor degree
16from Washington University in St. Louis; he later graduated
17from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of
18Wisconsin at Madison and, prior to law school, worked as a bank
19examiner for the Federal Reserve in the St. Louis District; he
20was also a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon; and
 
21    WHEREAS, After law school, Edward Moehle was admitted into

1the Bar in Missouri and Illinois; he began his legal career as
2an Assistant State's Attorney in Tazewell County; he later
3founded the law firm now known as Moehle, Swearingen &
4Associates, Ltd., with his brother, Mel, in 1966; he retired in
52010 after a fulfilling career of practicing law for over 50
6years; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Edward Moehle was associated with the Attorney's
8Title Guaranty Fund, Inc. as an active member since 1965 and as
9a board member from 1970 to 2003; he served as the
10organization's chairman of the board from 1980 to 1982; he was
11instrumental in developing the Court Counselor program in
12Tazewell County and was very active on the Tazewell Mason
13Special Education Board for many years; he was also a former
14member of the Pekin Public Schools District 108 Board of
15Education; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Edward Moehle was an active member of First United
17Methodist Church in Pekin and served on many boards and
18committees at the church; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Edward Moehle was preceded in death by his
20parents; a granddaughter, Charlotte Anne Church; and 4
21brothers, C. Fred Moehle, Walter E. Moehle, Robert C. Moehle,
22and Melvin O. Moehle; and

1    WHEREAS, Edward Moehle is survived by his wife, Carol; 4
2daughters, Colleen Moehle, Michelle (Thor) Moestue, Valerie
3Moehle, and Paula (Timothy) Church; 5 grandsons, James Michael
4(Rachel) Hartnett, III, Eric Robinson, Nicholas Umholtz,
5Alexander Umholtz, and William Church; 4 granddaughters,
6Katherine (David) Bow, Anna Umholtz, Elizabeth Church, and
7Margaret Church; a great-grandson, Joshua M. Hartnett; a
8son-in-law, Stewart Umholtz; and 2 former foreign exchange
9students, Tina and Lisa; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
12family and friends, mourn the passing of Edward Carl Moehle;
13and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Edward Moehle as an expression of
16our sympathy.
