SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Leonard "Lennie" Joseph Piekarski of
4Mundelein, who passed away on August 3, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lennie Piekarski was born in Milwaukee on June 29,
61926 and lovingly welcomed into the family of Ben and Elizabeth
7Piekarski through adoption; he joined the United States Navy at
8the age of 18 and served in the Pacific Theater during World
9War II; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lennie Piekarski worked as a letter carrier with
11the United States Postal Service for 40 years; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lennie Piekarski began his drum corps career with
13the Gladstone Junior Corps and continued as a member of the
14championship Skokie Indians; he then moved on to being the
15marching and maneuvering instructor of the world championship
16Chicago Cavaliers and to judging drum corps competitions; he
17was past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars post #8741 and
18American Legion post #820, and at the time of his passing he
19was a member of the Mundelein American Legion Post #867; he was
20active in coaching his children's baseball, basketball,
21softball, and football teams; he was a member of Santa Maria
22del Popolo Parish, the Knights of Columbus, and served as a

1minister of communion; he enjoyed to fishing, golfing, bicycle
2riding, and cross country skiing; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lennie Piekarski was preceded in death by his
4parents, Benjamin and Elizabeth Piekarski; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lennie Piekarski is survived by his wife of 61
6years, Joan Piekarski (nee Conrad); their 5 children, Terry
7(Roger) Krikke, Joe (Helen) Piekarski, Sandy (Brent) Simpson,
8Carl (Mary) Piekarski, and Patti (David) Hehr; 8 grandchildren,
9Michelle (John) Dohrwardt, Becky (Chris) Kemper, Elizabeth
10Krikke, Mark (Rebekah) Krikke, Jim Piekarski, Sarah Krikke,
11Ashley Piekarski, and Austin Piekarski; and 4
12great-grandchildren, Isabell Kemper, John Henry Dohrwardt,
13Ashton Kemper, and James Dohrwardt; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Leonard "Lennie" Joseph Piekarski, and extend our sincere
17condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
18him; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Leonard Piekarski as an expression
21of our deepest sympathy.
