2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of John R. Snyder of Rushville, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on June 15, 2014; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, John Snyder was born in Macomb on January 1, 1942 | ||||||
6 | to Irwin and Helen (nee Vaughn) Snyder; he grew up in Hersman | ||||||
7 | and graduated from Brown County High School in 1960; he | ||||||
8 | attended Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, where he | ||||||
9 | played football, and later attended Parsons College in | ||||||
10 | Fairfield, Iowa, where he was a member of the parachute team; | ||||||
11 | he married Dianne Busen on July 22, 1967 at the First Christian | ||||||
12 | Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mount Sterling; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, John Snyder enlisted with the United States Army | ||||||
14 | during the Vietnam War; he was stationed at Fort Rucker where | ||||||
15 | he earned his pilot's license and air traffic controller | ||||||
16 | certification; he was a member of the select Golden Knights | ||||||
17 | parachute team and participated in many demonstrations and | ||||||
18 | competitions both domestically and internationally; he logged | ||||||
19 | over 2,000 jumps and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for | ||||||
20 | breaking many parachuting records and he participated in the | ||||||
21 | Military Olympics in Spain in 1968; he earned his pilot's | ||||||
22 | licenses from Emery Riddle University in Atlanta, Georgia for | ||||||
23 | commercial multi-engine and instrumental ratings; and

1 | WHEREAS, After his military service, John Snyder worked in | ||||||
2 | insurance sales and management in St. Louis, before being | ||||||
3 | recruited by his mother to run the family business of Snyder's | ||||||
4 | Vaughn-Haven Nursing Home in Rushville in 1973; he became owner | ||||||
5 | and administrator, working until his death; he was also a | ||||||
6 | licensed plumber, electrician, and HVAC technician and had many | ||||||
7 | other business interests; and | ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, John Snyder was a member of many pilot and flying | ||||||
9 | associations, founding member of the Rushville Flying Club, | ||||||
10 | board member and past president of the Illinois Health Care | ||||||
11 | Association, board member of the American Health Care | ||||||
12 | Association, and co-founder of the Illinois Nursing Home | ||||||
13 | Administrators Association; he was also a member of the First | ||||||
14 | Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Rushville, the | ||||||
15 | Rushville Masonic Lodge Ancient Free and Accepted Masons 9, the | ||||||
16 | Quincy Consistory and the Ansar Shrine, and the Schuyler | ||||||
17 | American Legion Post 4, 40 et 8; for many years, he coached and | ||||||
18 | supported Rushville Little League and flag football; he enjoyed | ||||||
19 | flying, playing golf, and working; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, John Snyder was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
21 | and
| ||||||
22 | WHEREAS, John Snyder is survived by his wife, Dianne; 2 |

| |||||||
1 | sons, Aaron Snyder and Gregg Snyder; one brother, Vaughn Snyder | ||||||
2 | and wife, Janet; his mother-in-law, Louise Busen; and several | ||||||
3 | nephews and their wives; therefore, be it
| ||||||
4 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
5 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
6 | John R. Snyder, and extend our sincere condolences to his | ||||||
7 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
8 | further

9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
10 | presented to the family of John Snyder as an expression of our | ||||||
11 | deepest sympathy.
