SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Hansel Marion DeBartolo, Jr. M.D. J.D. of
4Aurora, who passed away on May 2, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Debartolo was born in Aurora on May 13, 1947
6to Dr. Hansel and Rosemary DeBartolo; he graduated from Marmion
7Military Academy and earned his Bachelor of Arts from the
8University of Minnesota and his Doctor of Medicine from the
9Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine; he trained in
10General Surgery residency at Geisinger Medical Center in
11Danville, Pennsylvania and then earned his Juris Doctor from
12Taft Law School in Santa Ana, California; he was
13board-certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dr. Debartolo practiced medicine in Aurora and
15Sugar Grove for over 36 years; he served as secretary/treasurer
16of the Illinois Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology and
17published many scholarly journal articles; he was a member of
18many professional organizations, including the Priestley
19Surgical Society, the Doctor Mayo Society, and the American
20Medical Association; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dr. Debartolo was a life-long member of Holy
22Angels Parish and the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus; he

1enjoyed traveling, gourmet dining, fine wine, and golf,
2especially at the Aurora Country Club where he was a member
3since 1978; he was part-owner of the Chicago White Sox since
41981, and a lifetime fan; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Debartolo was preceded in death by his
6parents; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. Debartolo is survived by his wife of 36 years,
8Susan (nee Hefty); 5 children, Dr. Dore, Hansel "Hanz" III, Dr.
9Merrit (Dr. Shanila Perea), Janae (Benjamin Ernst), and Raquel;
10one grandson, Jonah; one brother, Dr. Daniel; one sister,
11Michele; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Hansel Marion DeBartolo, Jr. M.D. J.D., and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Dr. Debartolo as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
