SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Herbert R. "Kip" Pohl, Jr., formerly of
4La Grange Park, who passed away on March 30, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Herbert Pohl, Jr. was born in 1942 and raised in
6La Grange Park; he graduated from Lyons Township High School in
71960 and studied journalism at Southern Illinois University
8before returning to La Grange Park to take over the
9family-owned news publication; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Herbert Pohl, Jr. founded and published The La
11Grange Sun Newspapers, which served the western suburbs; after
12selling the newspapers, he became head of acquisitions with
13Copley Newspapers; later he was the President and Chief
14Executive Officer of Homes International magazine; in
15retirement he started Iowa City Entertainment, Inc., a
16multi-business hospitality company; he was also an owner of
17Pancheros Mexican Grill, a chain of more than 65 restaurants;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Herbert Pohl, Jr. served his community in numerous
20ways; he was Chairman of the Board for the YMCA and raised over
21$7,000,000 for the organization's La Grange Park chapter; he
22was an active member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in La Grange

1Park, and then Grace Episcopal Church in Hinsdale; he was a
2member of the Kiwanis and headed a division of the La Grange
3Park Pet Parade and maintained a spotless record of perfect
4attendance at all of his children and grandchildren's sports
5and extracurricular events; he was voted "Man of the Year" by
6the West Suburban Chamber of Commerce in 1982; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Herbert Pohl, Jr. was a tremendous cook, an avid
8gardner, and a collector of fine arts; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Herbert Pohl, Jr. is survived by his wife of over
1045 years, Cheryl; his sons, Jeffrey (Kelly) and James (Anna);
11his daughter, Jennifer; his grandchildren, Griffin, Reagan,
12Garrett, and Alexandra; and many nieces and nephews; therefore,
13be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Herbert R. "Kip" Pohl, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences
17to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Herbert Pohl, Jr. as an expression
21of our deepest sympathy.
