SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Pennington McGee, formerly of Chicago,
4who passed away on April 8, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pennington McGee was born in Alton on September
629, 1945 to Thomas and Christeen (nee Harrison) McGee; he
7graduated from Alton High School in 1963 and studied at
8Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio; he
9transferred to the Art Institute of Chicago, where he earned
10his bachelor's degree in fine arts; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Pennington McGee was employed in various fields of
12art and was well known for creating street portraits in
13Chicago's Old Town neighborhood; he loved music and had the
14pleasure of playing with many renowned musicians; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Pennington McGee was a member of Greater St. James
16Baptist Church in Alton, and, later in life, he joined the
17First Baptist Congregational Church in Chicago, where he served
18on the Music Ministry and as a member of the Sanctuary Choir;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, Pennington McGee was preceded in death by his
21parents; a brother, Charles McGee; and a daughter, Elizabeth

1Chante McGee; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Pennington McGee is survived by his wife of 7
3years, Daisy Ingram (nee Farmer) McGee; 2 sons, State
4Representative Kenneth McGee (Yolanda) Dunkin and Matthew
5McGee (Lena) Johnson; 3 sisters, JoAnn McGee Winburn, Eva
6(Michael) McGee Edwards, and Patricia (Elam) McGee King; 17
7grandchildren, Chakita, Robert, Rashay, Anthony, Avonte,
8Silvanna, Shawnteria, Kenyatta Sacha, Kendall, Kennedy,
9Brei'Ana, Matthew Jr., Christain, Nicholas, Maximos,
10Nathaniel, and Destiny; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of
11nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Pennington McGee, and extend our sincere condolences to his
15family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented the family of Pennington McGee as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
