SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ruth "Grandma" Jones, who passed away on
4October 10, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ruth Jones was born on March 17, 1926 in
6Birmingham, Alabama to the Reverend Archie and Carrie Manning;
7she married Charles Jones, Sr.; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Ruth Jones was a homemaker and loved caring for
9her children and grandchildren; eventually she became the
10"neighborhood nanny" and cared for numerous children from the
11community while their parents went to work and school; she had
12such an affect that the Grandma Jones Daycare Centers I and III
13in Calumet City now proudly bear her name in dedication; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Ruth Jones joined the Greater Mount Sinai Baptist
15Church in 1942 and was a member for over 25 years; she served
16the church in a variety of positions including the choir,
17nurse's board, church secretary, and trustee; she later joined
18New Shining Light Baptist Church and served there for 10 years;
19she then joined Fountain of Life Church of Christ and served in
20the ministry as President of the Pastor's Aide Ministry; she
21received her Evangelist License and was appointed Church
22Mother, serving faithfully at the Fountain of Life Church of

1God in Christ for over 30 years; in 2010, she joined Devine
2Word Ministries and was appointed to the Mother's Ministry; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Ruth Jones was preceded in death by her parents;
4her husband; her sisters; her brothers; and her eldest son; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ruth Jones is survived by her son, Rogers (Wendy);
6her daughter, Betty; her grandchildren, Chauncey (Lydia),
7Cherae (Reginald), Cordell (Crystal) Drake, Bryce, Karol, and
8Richard; her great-grandchildren, Chaundia, Kennedy, Earehc',
9Jacob, Maurice, Ciara, Phylicia, Raymond, Karen, and London;
10her many nieces, nephews, and cousins; her close friends,
11Jackie Jones and Fredonia Bey; and a host of other relatives
12and friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Ruth "Grandma" Jones, and extend our sincere condolences to her
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
17further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Ruth Jones as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
