SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of 35-year firefighting veteran, Randall
4"Randy" Mortland of East Alton, who passed away on August 24,
52013; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Randall Mortland was born on September 4, 1954 to
7Lester L. and Helen "Bunny" (nee Fischer) Mortland; he
8graduated from East Alton-Wood River High School in 1972; he
9worked for Federal Steel for a short time and then began is
10career as a firefighter; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Randall Mortland worked his way up through the
12ranks, becoming Lieutenant in 1989 and Captain in 2000; he
13became Chief of the East Alton Fire Department on January 1,
142006; he retired in November 2012; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Randall Mortland continued to give back to his
16community as a village trustee during his retirement; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Randall Mortland saw firefighting become a family
18affair when his son, Andrew "Drew" Mortland, was sworn in as a
19firefighter for East Alton; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Randall Mortland married Debbie (nee Allsman)

1McGee on July 29, 2013; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Randall Mortland enjoyed spending time with his
3family, friends, his 2 basset hounds, Otis and Ellie, and
4watching NASCAR; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Randall Mortland was preceded in death by his
6parents and by his brother, William "Bill" Mortland; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Randall Mortland is survived by his wife, Debbie;
8his son, Drew (Laurie) Mortland; his soon-to-be granddaughter,
9Josephine "Joey" Mortland; his step-son, Seth (Kayla) McGee;
10his step-daughter, Cassi McGee; his brother, Greg (Lana)
11Mortland; his sister-in-law, Judy Mortland; his aunt,
12Elizabeth "Betty" (nee Mortland) Fisher; his niece, Amy (Tim)
13Cadigan; his nephews, Rob (Lynn) Helmkamp, Brad (Donna)
14Mortland, and Dean (Tami) Mortland; his great-nieces and
15nephews; and his great-great-nephew; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Randall "Randy" Mortland, and extend our sincere condolences to
19his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
20further
