SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Leonard A. Douglas of North Aurora, who
4passed away on May 18, 2013; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Leonard Douglas was born on December 19, 1933, in
6Aurora to C.A. and Irene (nee Zaricor) Douglas; he attended
7East Aurora High School and upon graduation in 1952 he joined
8the U.S. Navy and served for 4 years; he married Marilyn
9Barger; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Following his service, he worked for the
11government delivering mail; in 1964, he and Marilyn started
12L.A. Douglas Carpet Service, which their sons grew into
13respected Fox Valley area companies, Douglas Carpet One and Big
14Bob's; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Leonard Douglas enjoyed spending time with his
16wife, children, grandchildren, and the family dogs; he liked to
17spend his time woodworking and donating time and resources
18through the North American Lion's Club, where he served as
19president and was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award; he was
20a volunteer fireman for North Aurora for many years and served
21on the Kane County Board; and

1    WHEREAS, Leonard Douglas was a Golden Heart Award
2recipient, having donated more than 11 gallons of blood; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Leonard Douglas was preceded in death by his
4parents; his in-laws, George and Leona (nee Kerr) Barger; and
5his brother-in-law, James Barger; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Leonard Douglas is survived by his wife of 56
7years, Marilyn; his children, Michael and Kari (nee Adams)
8Douglas, James and Barbara (nee Humann) Douglas, and Christine
9and Christopher Theisen; his grandchildren, Matt (fiancee
10Casie), Kelley, Jay, Lindsay, John and Zachary Douglas, and
11Alex, Ellie, and Jake Theisen; his sister, Carolyn (Orv) Jones;
12his sister-in-law, Dorothy (Bill) Hotle; his many nieces,
13nephews, and cousins; and his dog, Topper; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Leonard Douglas, and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family Leonard Douglas as an expression of our
21deepest sympathy.
