HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jordan
4Lewis of Carterville, who passed away on October 17, 2013 at
5his home in Carterville; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis was born on June 11, 1998 in
7Carbondale; his parents were Tina (nee Green) Lewis and Bradley
8Lewis; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis was a sophomore at Carterville High
10School, where he played football and worked hard on his
11studies; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis enjoyed cheering for the Chicago
13Bears with his dad and spending time with his friends and
14family; with these things in mind, he was memorialized with a
15Bears-themed service in Marion, where friends and family came
16to say goodbye; his father wore a Chicago Bears tie, and
17bouquets of orange and blue flowers adorned the funeral home;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis left us too soon; the 15 year-old
20high school student faced overwhelming pressure at school due
21to bullying; in his suicide note, he blamed bullying as the

1cause for his actions; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis was preceded in death by his paternal
3grandfather, Roger Lewis; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jordan Lewis is survived by his parents; a
5brother, Kyle Lewis; a sister, Deeanna Lewis; his paternal
6grandmother, Rita Miller; a step-grandmother, Juanita Lewis;
7his maternal grandfather, Bob (Joyce); his maternal
8grandmother, Cheryl (Roger) Rains; his maternal
9great-grandmother, Joyce Green; 2 uncles, Phillip Lewis and Tom
10Green; an aunt, Linda Lewis; an aunt and uncle, Teresa and Adam
11Coleman; and several cousins and friends; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn the passing of Jordan Lewis and extend our sincere
15condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
16him; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Jordan Lewis, who
18serves as a reminder of the severe consequences that bullying
19can have, and urge the people of this State to treat others
20with the respect, kindness, and love Jordan Lewis and all of us
21deserve; and be it further
