HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Libertyville High School Debate Team has had a
3successful 2013-14 season, with great team and individual
4success in both Public Forum and Lincoln-Douglas Debate
5formats; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Both styles of debate require not only the
7development of rhetorical and analytical skills, but also a
8deep understanding of topics derived only from many hours of
9independent research and writing; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Libertyville High School recently sent a large
11delegation of 1st and 2nd-year debaters to the Illinois
12Communication and Theater Association State Tournament on the
13weekend of March 14, 2014; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Sophomore Elizabeth Murphy placed 9th and
15sophomore Ken Wu placed 13th in Junior Varsity Lincoln
16Douglas-Debate, while freshman Alo Garcia-Escobar placed 13th
17in the State in novice Lincoln-Douglas style debate, and
18freshman Manal Ahmed placed 10th in Speaker for Public Forum;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, The Illinois High School Association administers
21the Varsity State Debate Tournament each year, affording

1experienced high school students the opportunity to compete
2against the finest quality debaters in the State, this year
3hosted at the University of Illinois-Springfield the weekend of
4March 21, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The Libertyville High School delegation of
6debaters to the Varsity State Tournament is composed of juniors
7Ankur Rastogi, Holly Miller, Pooja Sajeev, Aasimah Tanveer,
8Lucia Zhang, and senior Stevie Zheng; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Coaches Dennis Duffy, Sarah Greenswag, and Brian
10Voss have great pride in their team's hard work, dedication,
11and success throughout the school year; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we recognize the talent and ability of these students and
15coaches and congratulate them on their achievements this
16season; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the Libertyville High School Debate Team as an
19expression of our esteem and with best wishes for continued
20academic success.
