HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Viola B.
4Mattson of Antioch, who passed away on February 4, 2014; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Viola Mattson was born on November 7, 1929 in
6Chicago; her parents were Albert and Ragnhild (nee Petersen)
7Pedersen; she married Leonard Mattson on July 1, 1984 in
8Antioch; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Viola Mattson grew up in Chicago and attended Lucy
10Flower Girls School; as a young girl, she participated in the
11International Order of Rainbow Girls; in 1945, she moved to
12Antioch, where she worked at the Pedersen Danish Bakery until
131947; after attending Lake County Community College and earning
14her Licensed Practical Nursing degree, she went on to work at
15Victory Memorial Hospital for many years; she also worked as an
16independent distributor for Xango Foods since 2004 and was a
17Mary Kay saleswoman for 15 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Viola Mattson was a very active member of St.
19Peter Church; she also worked as the hostess of the annual
20Christmas in July family event and served as a Girl Scout
21leader for many years; and

1    WHEREAS, Viola Mattson was preceded in death by her
2parents; her first husband, James J. Walsh; her daughter, Linda
3Gerloff; her brother, Gordon Pedersen; her brothers-in-law,
4Irv and Frank Walsh; her son-in-law, Joe Ziemba; and her
5daughter-in-law, Pauline O'Kern; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Viola Mattson is survived by her husband, Leonard;
7her children, Daniel Walsh, Michael Walsh, Kathy (Glenn)
8Barham, Betty (Kenneth) Dahm, Carolyn Ziemba, Linda (Jeff)
9Hawk, and Leonard Mattson; her grandchildren, Ted (Cassie),
10James (Sarah), Joshua (Jennifer), Brittany (Angelo), Jenny
11(Tony), Margeau, Megan, Calla, Emily, Connor, Bobby, Caleb,
12Casey, and Camille; her great-grandchildren, Cayla, Chris,
13Jacquie, Alex, Amber, Mya, Lidya, and Evey; her sister-in-law,
14Ethel Pedersen; her nephew, Donald (Joanne) Walsh; and her
15nieces, Diane (the late Paul) Erckman and Karen (Marty) Staff;
16therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
18NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
19we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of
20Viola B. Mattson; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Viola Mattson as an expression of
23our sympathy.
