SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Navy League of the United States was
3established by President Teddy Roosevelt; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The United States Navy is second to none in the
5entire world; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The United States Navy will be launching and
7commissioning ten LCS cruiser ships within the next few years
8to join the fleet under the Freedom class; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The City of Aurora, Illinois, also called the City
10of Lights, is now the second largest city within the State of
11Illinois; and
 
12    WHEREAS, The City of Aurora, consisting of diversified
13industries, considers itself a blue collar town, where many
14have been the first to volunteer to serve their country; and
 
15    WHEREAS, The City of Aurora lost an inordinate number of
16military personnel in comparison to its population in combat
17during World War II; and
 
18    WHEREAS, The City of Aurora, in succeeding conflicts,
19contributed men and materials in the protection of the United

1States as each instance warranted; and
 
2    WHEREAS, The City of Aurora continues to send men and women
3to serve the United States of America; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The City of Aurora is proud of the fact that East
5Aurora High School has the largest JNROTC naval program in the
6nation; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Aurora Council of the Navy League, at its
8monthly meeting on January 18, 2011, approved a resolution to
9be adopted which stated that the citizens of Aurora would be
10honored to have one of the new commissioned ships be named USS
11Aurora; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the President
14and the Secretary of the Navy to name one of the new LCS
15cruiser ships under construction as the USS Aurora in honor of
16the City of Aurora and its many contributions to the welfare of
17the nation; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be given
19to the President and the Secretary of the Navy.
