HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to honor David K. Harmon on his
4retirement from the Kankakee Fire Department; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He began his career with the Kankakee Fire
6Department on July 17, 1984; he was certified Firefighter II
7and was Class Valedictorian on November 2, 1984; he became an
8EMT-A in 1985; an Advanced Firefighter III in 1986; an EMT-I in
91987; an EMT-P in 1988; and a First Class Firefighter in 1988;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, He was a Union Board member for 9 years, serving
12as the Chaplain, Treasurer, Vice-President, and President; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1992; he became
14the Department Training Officer in 1993 and continued on and
15off in that role until 2000; he was certified Fire Officer II
16in 1996; he was promoted to the Rank of Captain in 2000; he
17directed the Fire Prevention Bureau from 1999 to 2005; and he
18was certified Fire Inspector I in 2001; and
 
19    WHEREAS, He was made a Life Safety Code Specialist in 2003;
20he was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief on December 1, 2004; he
21received the Illlinois Fire Safety Alliance Command and General

1Staff Certification in 2008; and he was certified as a Fire
2Officer III in 2010; and
 
3    WHEREAS, He received the Department's first "Legion of
4Valor Award"; he implemented the use of FireHouse Management
5software Department-wide and managed the Department's network
6and technologies; he became an Arson Investigator in 1997,
7finishing number one in the class and voted outstanding student
8by his peers; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He organized "Harmony Ranch" training events in
101996 assisting the "American Heat" video production company,
11training firefighters world-wide; he authored numerous grants
12and secured $1,351,383 for various programs and projects within
13the Kankakee Fire Department; and he built and maintains the
14Department Internet website; and
 
15    WHEREAS, He is married to Beth; their children are Melissa,
16Melinda, Mackenzi, Mason, and Madison; they also enjoy their
17grandchildren, Avery, Evan, and Elliot; he plans on cleaning in
18retirement; therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
20NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we congratulate David Harmon on his retirement and wish him all
22the best in his future endeavors; and be it further
