HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The Illinois House of Representatives is saddened
3to learn of the death of retired State Representative Donald
4Hensel, who passed away on February 26, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Representative Hensel leaves behind a succession
6of public offices that served the West Chicago and Winfield
7communities, as well as a career as a businessman and public
8servant; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Representative Hensel proudly served his country
10in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, and
11the USAAF's successor, the United States Air Force, during the
12Korean conflict; and
 
13    WHEREAS, During Representative Hensel's 31-year career at
14Kawneer (Alumax) Aluminum he rose to become Manager of
15Purchasing and Inventory Control; and
 
16    WHEREAS, He was a Winfield Township trustee from 1973 to
171977 and clerk from 1977 to 1985; and
 
18    WHEREAS, He was elected to the Illinois House of
19Representatives to represent the 50th District from 1983 to
201993; and

1    WHEREAS, One of his most notable accomplishments as State
2Representative was working with West Chicago Mayor Rennels to
3secure funds for the cleanup of radioactive Thorium at an
4impacted site in West Chicago; and
 
5    WHEREAS, From 1995 to the present he was a member of the
6West Chicago Lions Club, serving in most of the offices,
7including Vice President and President; the Lions Club voted
8him as "Citizen of the Year" in 1998; and
 
9    WHEREAS, As a veteran of the United States armed forces, he
10was a past commander of the American Legion, and spent numerous
11hours on projects for the West Chicago American Legion,
12including treasure hunts and fish fries; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He worked as a trustee for the West Chicago Fire
14Protection District from 2001 to the present; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In 2010, Representative Hensel and his wife, Mary
16Ann, celebrated 60 years of marriage; and
 
17    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his son, David Hensel;
18his parents, Art and Edna Hensel; and his brother, Willard
19Hensel; and

1    WHEREAS, Former State Representative Donald Hensel is
2survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his sons, Steven (Cathi), Jim
3(Barb), and Rick; his daughter, Dona (Phil) Smith; his
4daughter-in-law, Linda; his grandchildren, Michael Hensel,
5Katie Hensel, Bree (Chris) Jorgensen, Brandi Kubajak, Sarah
6Hensel, Dawn Chorobik, Kristen Paris, Eric Chorobik, Britt
7Hensel, and Matt Hensel; his brothers, Wayne (Cheryl) Hensel
8and Bob (Jeanne) Hensel; his sister, Marion (Wayne) Talley; as
9well as many great-grandchildren, step grandchildren,
10great-step grandchildren, and friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we recognize Representative Donald Hensel and remember this
14honest and conscientious man and Illinois citizen, who
15faithfully served his community and the state of Illinois for
16many years; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Mary Ann Hensel, on behalf of the Hensel family,
19as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
