HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate our friend and
4colleague, Illinois State Representative Jack McGuire, on the
5occasion of his retirement after many years of service to the
6people of the State of Illinois; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Representative Jack McGuire, also known as
8"Gentleman Jack" by his fellow Representatives, was born and
9raised in Joliet; after graduating from Joliet Catholic High
10School and attending Joliet Junior College, he graduated from
11Colorado State College and began a career as a teacher and
12coach; he also served as the Joliet Township Supervisor prior
13to his work in the Illinois House of Representatives; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Representative McGuire served his country with
15pride as a member of the United States Army and served overseas
16during his time there; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Representative McGuire has served the people of
18the 86th District since 1991; during his tenure, he has served
19on the House Transportation, Railroad, Federal Funding,
20Tourism, and Aging Committees; he also served as the
21chairperson of the Aging Committee from the 90th General
22Assembly to the 93rd General Assembly; and

1    WHEREAS, Throughout his legislative career, Representative
2McGuire has made it his duty to speak for children, senior
3citizens, people with disabilities, and others who did not have
4a voice of their own; he worked to secure additional grants for
5school safety and education improvement and fought ceaselessly
6to improve education standards; he also worked to expand the
7circuit breaker and pharmaceutical assistance program, which
8enabled lower-income Illinois seniors to receive affordable
9prescription drugs and property tax relief; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Representative McGuire is an active member of his
11community; he is a member of numerous social service boards,
12including the Salvation Army, the Senior Services Center, the
13Will/Grundy Medical Clinic, Foster Grandparents, the Housing
14Foundation, and the Center for Independent Living; he has also
15served as the Secretary and Vice-President of the
16Irish-American Society; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Representative McGuire has been the recipient of
18numerous awards for his work, including the Legislator of the
19Year award by the American Red Cross, the Zeke Giorgi Labor
20Award, and the Josephine Oblinger Award; he has also been
21honored by the Will County Farm Bureau, the Region Two Area
22Agency on Aging, the Senior Services Center, the Senior
23Companion Program, the American Cancer Society, and Citizens

1with Disabilities for his many legislative achievements; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Representative McGuire will enjoy his well-earned
3retirement with his loving wife, Patricia, his children, and
4his grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we congratulate our friend and colleague, Illinois State
8Representative Jack McGuire, on his retirement from the
9Illinois House of Representatives and wish him the best in his
10future endeavors; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to Representative Jack McGuire as a symbol of our
13esteem and respect.
