HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lacy J.
4Banks; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Lacy Banks held the distinction of being the first
6African-American sportswriter at the Chicago Sun-Times; he
7joined the Sun-Times in 1972 and began covering the Chicago
8Bulls in the mid-1980s; during his career, he covered Michael
9Jordan's entire NBA career, including all six of the Bulls'
10championships, and he covered the Bulls into the postseason in
112011; and
 
12    WHEREAS, In addition to his career as a sportswriter, Lacy
13Banks was also a long-time Baptist preacher; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Lacy Banks is survived by his wife, Joyce; his 3
15daughters; and his 5 grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
19Lacy J. Banks; and be it further
 
20    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
