SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Edward M. "Boots" Cosgrove, who passed
4away on October 20, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, As a very young boy, Edward Cosgrove was called
6"Boots" by his sister, who was unable to pronounce the name
7"Butch"; this nickname eventually became a household name and
8he was called Boots by everyone for the rest of his life; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Edward Cosgrove was raised on the southwest side
10of Chicago, in the West Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood; he
11attended St. Cajetan Grammar School and Mount Carmel High
12School; after his father passed away at a very early age, he
13assumed the new position as head of the family; eventually, he
14entered into the trades and became a member of the Illinois
15Ceramic Tile, Terrazzo, and Granite Union Local 67; he was well
16known for many precision mosaic tile murals and ceramic foyers
17in the Chicago Loop and throughout the City of Chicago; and
 
18    WHEREAS, After working in the ceramic trade for over 20
19years, Edward Cosgrove became a stationary engineer and member
20of Local #399; he was employed at the Cook County Jail for many
21years until his retirement in May of 2003; and

1    WHEREAS, Edward Cosgrove was well known among his peers as
2a great baseball player, having played both baseball and
316-inch softball; he played ball at Kennedy Park for many
4years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Edward Cosgrove enjoyed fishing, particularly at
6Lake Sara in Effingham, where he made many trips with his
7family and friends; he made his last trip to Lake Sara on
8September 16, 2010; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Edward Cosgrove is survived by his wife, Ellen;
10his children, Edward Jr., William, and Robert; his
11grandchildren, Shannon, Paige, Robert, and Jonathan; and his
12siblings; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Edward Cosgrove will be remembered fondly by all
14who knew and loved him for his great pride in his Irish
15heritage, his unwavering honesty, and his wonderful sense of
16humor; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19his family and friends, the passing of Edward M. "Boots"
20Cosgrove; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
