SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dojna G. Barr, who passed away on October
430, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dojna Barr was born on January 18, 1932 in
6Belgrade, Yugoslavia; her parents were Ellena (Naum) and Stojan
7Galich; and
 
8    WHEREAS, After she earned her doctorate in medicine, Dojna
9Barr served her residency in psychiatry at Presbyterian St.
10Luke's Hospital and earned her board certification as a fellow
11in pediatrics, as well as in child, adult, and geriatric
12psychiatry; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dojna Barr served as the Director of Child and
14Adolescent Psychiatry at Chicago's Ridgeway Hospital,
15Naperville's Linden Oaks Hospital, and the Ottawa Hospital; she
16was also one of the first female staff members at Provena St.
17Joseph Hospital, where she served for over 35 years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dojna Barr published 8 novels and was the
19recipient of the 2008 Fyodor Dostoyevsky Literary Award and the
20Peter Kocic Foundation Modern Literature Award in recognition
21of her literary achievements; she was also a passionate still

2    WHEREAS, Dojna Barr was preceded in death by her parents
3and her husband, the Honorable William G. Barr; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dojna Barr is survived by her son, George Barr;
5her daughter in-law, Donna J. (McGee) Barr; her grandchildren,
6Aaron W. Barr, Lauren A. Barr, and Ian G. Barr; her sisters,
7Adina (Galich) Rakocevich (Sava), and Urania Galich Djucovich
8(Bora); her stepson, Michael Barr; her stepdaughters, Susan
9Helberg and Kathleen Kruger; and her cousin, Maria Naum
10(Bogdan); therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13her family and friends, the passing of Dojna G. Barr; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Dojna Barr as an expression of our
17sympathy.
