SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Bruno Bartoszek of Aurora, who passed
4away on November 1, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek was born on February 27, 1922, in
6Toporow, Poland; his parents were the late Simon and Zofia
7Bartoszek; and
 
8    WHEREAS, In 1942, Bruno Bartoszek joined the Polish Army
9after he and his family were released from Siberian work camps
10in the Soviet Union; he served faithfully as a member of the
11Polish 2nd Corps, 3rd Carpathian Division under British
12command, seeing action in Libya, Italy, Iran, Iraq, Palestine,
13Egypt, and Lebanon; he fought in the Battle of Monte Cassino
14when the Polish Army defeated the German forces in May of 1944;
15he was awarded several medals for his service during World War
16II, including the Virtuti Militari medal, the Polish equivalent
17to the Medal of Honor, the Army Medal (Polish), the 1939-45
18Star, the Italy Star, the Defense Medal, and the Cross of Monte
19Cassino Medal (Polish); after the war, he worked in the British
20War Office in London, England before coming to the United
21States in 1951; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek was employed with Aurora Pump, the

1Burlington Northern Railroad, and subsequently retired as an
2agent for Prudential Insurance Company; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek was a member of several local
4clubs and historical societies in Aurora and the surrounding
5communities, including the Boy Scouts of America, the Catholic
6Committee of the Rockford Diocese, the Waubonsee Community
7College Literacy Project, the Grand Army of the Republic
8Association, and the historical societies of Sugar Grove,
9Batavia, Shabbona, Kendall County, Oswego, Franklin Grove, and
10Grundy County; he was named Grand Marshal for Aurora's Fourth
11of July parade in 1996; he was also a member of Our Lady of Good
12Counsel Church; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek is preceded in death by his
14sisters, Anna, Teofilia, and Mary, and his brothers, Frank and
15John; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Bruno Bartoszek is survived by his daughter,
17Annette (Rick) Lawrence, his son, Jack (Donita) Bartoszek; his
18grandchildren, Sarah and Stephanie Lawrence and Allen
19Bartoszek; his wife, Wanda; his sister, Angela Buczkiewicz; his
20half-brothers, Casmir and Stanley; and his numerous nieces and
21nephews; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
2his family and friends, the passing of Bruno Bartoszek; and be
3it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Bruno Bartoszek as an expression of
6our sympathy.
