SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Judy Gay Stevenson of Oak Brook, formerly
4of Naperville, who passed away on June 28, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson was born on December 6, 1937, in
6New York; she devoted herself to the clarinet, cello, chorus,
7band, and orchestra while attending Naperville Community High
8School; after moving on to North Central College, her areas of
9study were voice and piano; she sang for 2 years with the
10Robert Shaw Corale and performed with the Chicago Lyric Opera;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson was Chairman of the Board of
13Magnetrol International Incorporated, a global provider of
14process instrumentation, at the time of her passing; she joined
15Magnetrol (then Schaub Engineering Company) in 1964 as a
16part-time bookkeeper; in her first year of employment, she rose
17to accounting supervisor and then to accounting manager a year
18later; in 1967, she was elected to serve as treasurer and
19administrative vice president; in 1975, she became president of
20the company and, in 1978, bought the company; under her
21leadership, Magnetrol has prospered due to an aggressive
22commitment to research and development, new products, new
23technologies, training, and progressive and creative thinking;

2    WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson was well known among her peers for
3her involvement and devotion to business, industry, and her
4community; at North Central College, she established the Harold
5E. Meiley Scholarship Fund, the Judy G. Stevenson Scholarship
6Fund, and the African Scholarship Fund; at the College of
7DuPage, she established the Judy G. Stevenson Scholarship and
8the Magnetrol Manufacturing Scholarship; she financed 6 annual
9scholarships to children of Magnetrol Associates and
10Representatives; she also supported the Naperville Heritage
11Society, Edward Hospital, the Naperville Riverwalk, the
12Millennium Carillon Foundation, Good Samaritan Hospital, and
13the DuPage Intergenerational Village; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson served on the Board of Trustees at
15North Central College and was a member of the Chief Executive
16Officers Club, the National Association of Women Business
17Owners, the National Association of Female Executives, and
18Eastern Star; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson was the recipient of numerous
20honors for her work in the community; she was named the YWCA
21Businesswoman of the Year for DuPage County in 1985, the YWCA
22Outstanding Woman Leader of DuPage County in 1997, and was
23recognized as one of The Top 500 Women-Owned Businesses in the

1country in 1998; in April of 1999, she was honored by
2Naperville Central High School when she received the Alumni
3Recognition Award for Achievements in Business and Community
4Service; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson was preceded in death by her
6parents, Harold and Claudia Meiley; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Judy Stevenson is survived by her loving daughter,
8Laurie Jane Swallow; her loving son, Jeffrey (Madeleine)
9Swallow; her three beautiful grandchildren, Emily, Heston, and
10Connor; her dear sister, Claudia Jeanne (Robert) Patterson; and
11her dear brothers, Charles Meiley and Emery "Duke" (Judy)
12Meiley; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15her family and friends, the passing of Judy Gay Stevenson; and
16be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Judy Gay Stevenson as an expression
19of our sympathy.
