SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Michael P. Verticchio of Gillespie, who
4passed away on September 2, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Verticchio was born on April 4, 1917, in
6Collinsville; his parents were Mario and Maria (Besso)
7Verticchio; he married Helen Pinteralli on November 28, 1936;
8she passed away on January 8, 1975; he then married Perina
9Erspamer on June 9, 1979; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Michael Verticchio served in the United States
11Navy during World War II; during his service, he taught physics
12at the Naval Academy Preparatory School; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Michael Verticchio earned his bachelor's degree
14from Illinois College and his master's degree from the
15University of Illinois; after earning his degree, he taught
16chemistry, physics, and math in several Illinois schools and
17served as principal of Gillespie High School; he later became
18Assistant County Superintendent and Macoupin County
19Superintendent of Schools; he was also employed as a real
20estate broker and income tax practitioner and was an active
21member of his community; and

1    WHEREAS, Michael Verticchio was the recipient of many high
2honors; in his later years, he wrote 4 novels; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Michael Verticchio was preceded in death by his
4parents; his spouses; his daughter, Karen; his brothers, Paul
5Verticchio and Amy Verton; and his sister, Viana Verticchio;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, Michael Verticchio is survived by his son, Michael
8J. Verticchio (Suzanne); his daughter, Mary Jo Handley
9(Douglas); his 5 grandchildren; and his 4 great-grandchildren;
10therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13his family and friends, the passing of Michael P. Verticchio;
14and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Michael Verticchio as an expression
17of our sympathy.
