SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Jeanne L. Garrett, who passed away on
4August 25, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jeanne Garrett was born on December 17, 1922, in
6Milwaukee, Wisconsin; her parents were Anna E. Lucas and
7Nicholas F. Lucas; she grew up in West Allis, Wisconsin as a
8dedicated Girl Scout and loved spending summers at a family
9farm in Paw Paw, Michigan; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Jeanne Garrett graduated from West Allis Central
11High School, where she met her husband, Roscoe Garrett, in
121938; the couple eventually married on September 7, 1943; she
13also attended the University of Wisconsin and served as
14Secretary to the Dean of Engineering at the University of
15Maine; in 1958, she and her husband moved to Deerfield, where
16she was an active member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, the
17Deerfield Women's Club, and the Patty Turner Senior Center; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Jeanne Garrett was a lifelong bridge player, most
19recently at the Townley Women's Club of Deerfield; she was also
20an active contributor to dozens of charity organizations,
21including the Covenant House and Father Flanagan's Boys' Home;
22and

1    WHEREAS, Jeanne Garrett was preceded in death by her
2daughter, Sally; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Jeanne Garrett is survived by her husband, Roscoe;
4her sisters, Norine and Patricia; her brother, Nicholas; her
5children, Scott (Susan), Jack and Paul (Sharon); and her
6grandchildren, Maria, Brett, Elizabeth, Alison and Benjamin;
7therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10her family and friends, the passing of Jeanne L. Garrett; and
11be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Jeanne Garrett as an expression of
14our sympathy.
