SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Marion O'Connor of Naples and Hollywood,
4Florida, formerly of Elgin and Huntley, who passed away on
5October 1, 2010; and
 
6    WHEREAS, She was born November 9, 1916 in Elgin; in July of
72010 she moved to Hollywood, Florida; and
 
8    WHEREAS, She was a graduate of St. Mary Elementary and
9Elgin High; she, with her husband and in-laws, operated the
10O'Connor Funeral Home in Elgin from 1940 to 1984; she worked
11for the Elgin Watch Company and the Elgiloy Corporation; she
12was also employed at Joseph Spiess Department Store and
13Collingbourne Mills as a bookkeeper and model for their fashion
14catalogues in the 1930s; and
 
15    WHEREAS, She will be remembered for her selflessness,
16independence, and genuine frankness all enhanced by wit and
17sense of humor; these qualities came through in golf and
18tennis, expertise at card games and rummikub, adeptness at
19hosting parties, and the chocolate chip cookies that delighted
20three generations of her offspring; she was a founding member
21of the St. Joseph Junior Hospital League, Nouveau Speculators,
22and the Elgin Golferettes; and

1    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph
2and Mathilda Ciraulo; her husband, William; her sister,
3Margaret Becklinger; and her Division Street family, Lawrence
4and Mildred O'Connor, Kathleen Martino, and Sharon Safar; and
 
5    WHEREAS, She is survived by three sons, Barrett (Darlene)
6O'Connor, Kevin, and Kerry (Linda). Also surviving are her
7seven grandchildren, Kelly (Larry) Lebedun, Sean (Amy)
8O'Connor, Erin (David) Madden, Brian O'Connor, Keli (Jason)
9Nitschke, Nicholas O'Connor and Mark O'Connor; and 15
10great-grandchildren, Jackson, Delaney, Riley, Spencer, Jordyn,
11Abby, Sarah, David, Madison, Hannah, McKenzie, Sydney, Kate,
12Violet and Jack. Also surviving are her sister, JoJean
13(Malbert) Middlesworth; her caregiver Amy Sakhiya; and many
14cousins, nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
16ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17her family and friends, the passing of Marion O'Connor; and be
18it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Marion O'Connor as a symbol of our
21sincere sympathy.
