SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Alexander B. Pratt, Sr. of Englewood, who
4recently passed away; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on May 4, 1929 in Chicago, to the late
6Albert Pratt, Sr. and Alma Pratt; he grew up in the Ida B.
7Wells Home and was educated in the Chicago Public School
8system, attended Forestville Elementary School, and graduated
9from Dunbar Trade School in 1947; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He accepted Christ at an early age; he served in
11the United States Army during the Korean War; he received an
12Honorable Discharge in 1955 and was ranked a Corporal; and
 
13    WHEREAS, He and his wife, Shirley, were united in matrimony
14on July 3, 1954; he later worked for the United States Postal
15Service, retiring in 1984; and
 
16    WHEREAS, He served as a member of the 73rd and 74th Street
17block club for over 40 years and as a member of the George L.
18Giles Post #87; he was also involved with the Dunbar's Old
19Timer Club & Dunbar's Alumni Association, the 7th District CAPS
20Crime Stoppers and Steering Committee, and the 17th Ward Senior
21Advisory Committee; he volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Open

1Hands, the Turner-Drew Grandparents Group, and many other
2community organizations; and
 
3    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and
4his sister, Loretta; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Alexander Pratt, Sr. is survived by his son,
6Alexander, Jr. (Barbara); his daughters, Jacqueline, Alicia,
7and Patricia; his grandchildren, Alexander III (LaNesha),
8Javaris, and Krystina; his great-granddaughters, Destiny,
9Kaytriana, Alexandria, and Lauren; his brother, Albert, Jr.
10(Florine); his sister, Teresa (Cornelius) Hendricks; his aunt,
11Yvonne; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and
12friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15his family and friends, the passing of Alexander Pratt, Sr.;
16and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Alexander Pratt, Sr. as a symbol of
19our sincere sympathy.
