SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald Albert "Doc" Guehler of Somonauk,
4who passed away on September 5, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born May 14, 1925, on a farm outside of
6Leland to Albert August and Anna (Passow) Guehler; he married
7Shirley M. Walker on April 11, 1948, at the Federated Church in
8Sandwich; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was a family farmer (dairy, hogs, grain, and
10chickens), a seed corn dealer for both Crow's and Funk's
11hybrids, an insurance representative, and a real estate agent;
12he attended rural schools and graduated from Somonauk High
13School in 1942; he was active in sports, Future Farmers of
14America, and 4-H, and was a lifelong member of St. John's
15Lutheran Church in Somonauk and almost a lifelong member of St.
16John's choir; and
 
17    WHEREAS, He held many positions with St. John's parish over
18the years, including stewardship and building fund endeavors,
19high school Sunday School teacher, lay minister, speaker, and
20congregation president, as was his father and grandfather; and
 
21    WHEREAS, He was a member of the DeKalb County Farm Bureau

1for four decades and was vice president for decades as well; he
2was a member of the Somonauk Lions Club, president of the
3Somonauk Music Boosters, a PTA and Somonauk School Board member
4for decades and president for years; he was an honorary member
5of the Somonauk FFA chapter and was a cultural icon in the Fox
6Valley as an emcee for hundreds of Farm Bureau, community, and
7church events for decades; and
 
8    WHEREAS, He played center in basketball and pitched
9softball for town and church leagues in the 40s and 50s; he was
10an enthusiastic water skier, had an affair with golf, and was
11an avid bowler and gardener his entire adult life; he also
12entertained church and community events as "Doc and the Country
13Boys" musical and variety show; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife,
15Shirley, on June 4, 2010; and his sister and brother-in-law,
16Marge (Dean) Coddington; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Donald Guehler is survived by his sons, Dennis
18"Denny" Guehler and Roger Guehler; his daughters, Rhonda
19(Darrell) Vander Bloomen and Sherrill (Gary) Randau; his
20granddaughter, Katie Randau; his grandsons, Adam Stavros, Dan
21Vander Bloomen, and Torr Randau; his sister-in-law, Mary
22Krzystofiak; his brother-in-law, Chuck (Stella) Walker; and a
23niece and four nephews; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
2ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
3his family and friends, the passing of Donald Guehler; and be
4it further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of Donald Guehler as a symbol of our
7sincere sympathy.
