SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Eldon Lee Polhemus of Hanna City, who
4 passed away on February 12, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on November 2, 1934, in Hanna City to
6 Bruce and Eileen (Swardinski) Polhemus; he married Betty Cain
7 on April 10, 1958, in Lincolnshire, England; he served in the
8 United States Air Force from November 1951 to May 1960 and
9 fought in the Korean War; he was awarded the honor of Queen
10 Scout in England (equivalent of Eagle Scout) for his work with
11 the scouts while stationed in England; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He was a member of the Hanna City American Legion;
13 a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Glasford, where he
14 attained the 32nd degree; member of the Hanna City Centennial
15 Committee; and of the Shriners; he was also a member of the
16 Hanna City United Methodist Church and chaired the building
17 committee; and
 
18     WHEREAS, He spent 40 years in automobile sales in
19 dealerships in the Peoria area, including Quality Motors in
20 Hanna City, which he and Betty owned and operated for 26 years;
21 he and his wife also owned and operated Polly's Glass Tap in
22 Minonk; he served on the Peoria County Board, representing

1 District 16 for 18 years, from 1990 to 2008; and he also served
2 on and chaired numerous committees and was strongly involved
3 with Peoria County Veterans affairs; and
 
4     WHEREAS, He was a supporter of veterans' recognition and
5 spearheaded the veterans memorial in Hanna City; he held
6 numerous offices in local government throughout his lifetime;
7 he started Feed the Flooded to help the victims of the 1993
8 Mississippi flood in Keithsburg; and he loved bald eagles and
9 amassed a collection of more than 700 pieces of eagle
10 memorabilia and gifts from family and friends; and
 
11     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and two
12 sons, Bruce and John; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Eldon Polhemus is survived by his wife of 51
14 years, Betty; his daughter, Janet (Tom) Timian; his
15 daughter-in-law, Sharon Polhemus; his four grandchildren; his
16 five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Ronnie (Kathy)
17 Polhemus; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20 his family and friends, the passing of Eldon Polhemus; and be
21 it further
