SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Evanell Williams of Litchfield, who
4 passed away on December 24, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born in Carrier Mills on June 2, 1925, the
6 daughter of Robert and Elizabeth (Gee) Meler; she graduated
7 from Galatia High School in Galatia and from Business School in
8 Springfield; and
 
9     WHEREAS, During World War II she worked as a "Rosie the
10 Riveter" at a defense contracting plant in Evansville, Indiana;
11 she married Bennett J. "Ben" Williams on April 2, 1946 in
12 Henderson, Kentucky; and
 
13     WHEREAS, She worked for Dr. Butler, Durham Lumber Company,
14 and Woolworths, all in Harrisburg; she worked for WEPCO
15 Manufacturing in Litchfield; she worked as a sales clerk in
16 East St. Louis and St. Louis; and she retired from the Illinois
17 State Police District 18 in Litchfield after 30 years of
18 service; and
 
19     WHEREAS, She was a member of St. Timothy United Methodist
20 Church, Litchfield Zonta Club, and was a longtime volunteer for
21 the Red Cross Blood Bank, serving as the Coordinator for many

1 years; she enjoyed fishing, hunting deer and wild turkey and
2 was a founding member of the National Wild Turkey Federation;
3 she also loved to travel and was actively involved with the
4 United Mine Workers of America District #12, along with her
5 husband; and
 
6     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; and her
7 sisters, Wilma Droit, Wanda Arnold, and Reba Brothers; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Evanell Williams is survived by her husband, Ben;
9 her son, James "Greg" (Susan); her daughter, Sandra Klein; her
10 brother, Sigel Meler; her grandchildren, Benjamin Fletcher and
11 Haley M. Williams; and her great-grandson, Tommy Abner;
12 therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15 her family and friends, the passing of Evanell Williams; and be
16 it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Evanell Williams as a symbol of our
19 sincere sympathy.
