SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of William K. Carman, who passed away on
4 November 30, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, William Carman was born on January 7, 1945; his
6 parents were William S. and Lois Logan Carman; he was married
7 to the former Sandra Kay Watts; and
 
8     WHEREAS, William Carman was a graduate of Alton Senior
9 High; he also attended Lewis and Clark Community College; and
 
10     WHEREAS, William Carman was the owner and operator of
11 Carman Contracting Inc. for 43 years; and
 
12     WHEREAS, William Carman served his country with pride and
13 distinction as a member of the United States Army serving in
14 the Vietnam War; he was the recipient of the Purple Heart, the
15 Medal of Valor, and other commendations for his meritorious
16 service; and
 
17     WHEREAS, William Carman was a member of Morning Star
18 Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the
19 Trustee Ministry and supervised the bus ministry; he was a
20 member of the American Legion VFW Post 354, a Past Master of

1 Dunbar Lodge No. 97, Tyree Consistory No. 64, and a 33rd Degree
2 Mason; he served as the Worthy Patron of Bright Hope Chapter
3 No. 85 Order of the Eastern Star; he also donated much of his
4 time and talent to numerous community projects; and
 
5     WHEREAS, William Carman was preceded in death by his
6 father; his grandparents, Amos and Hortense Logan and Arvis and
7 Treoplia Carman; and his dear uncles, George Carman and Carl
8 Logan; and
 
9     WHEREAS, William Carman is survived by his wife, Sandra
10 Kay; his mother, Lois E. Carman; his children, Markeitra
11 (Archie) Ingram; Marc (Melinda) Adams, Travis (Cheri) Smith,
12 Kristy (Donald) Mason-El, Deana Anderson, Kissa (Algie)
13 Ingram, Julius (Sarah) Anderson, Akia Appleby, Aamad Appleby,
14 and Ravi Appleby; his 17 grandchildren; his great-grandchild;
15 his brother, Richard S. (Celeste) Carman; his sisters, Regina
16 (Carl) Edwards, Robin (Terry) Douglas, and Annetta (Michael)
17 Thompson; and his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends;
18 therefore, be it
 
19     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
20 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
21 his family and friends, the passing of William K. Carman; and
22 be it further
