SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Georgia Silverthorn of Afton, Iowa, who
4 passed away on September 11, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Georgia Tabitha Silverthorn was born October 9,
6 1923, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Joseph Crosby and Monta
7 Mahala (Eggleston) McDonald and was a 1941 graduate of
8 Winterset High School; and
 
9     WHEREAS, On November 27, 1941, she was united in marriage
10 to Daniel "Dean" Silverthorn in Grant City, Missouri; Georgia
11 continued her education at Simpson College, where she earned
12 her teaching certificate; she taught country school for several
13 years; and
 
14     WHEREAS, She accepted Christ as her personal savior in 1950
15 and was a member of the Fellowship Church in Monroe Township
16 until the family moved to Missouri in 1966; Georgia taught
17 Sunday school in the churches they attended and was group
18 leader for youth groups; she also was an active farm wife and
19 worked for Missouri Home Care until she retired; in 2003, her
20 family moved back to Afton; she was a member of the Fellowship
21 Church in Monroe Township; and

1     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband and two
2 sisters, Mary Harpole and Mable Richens; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Georgia Silverthorn is survived by her sons, Dan
4 Silverthorn, Fred Silverthorn, and Sam Silverthorn; her
5 sisters, Margaret Spick and Thelma Speer; her brother, Louis
6 McDonald; her eight grandchildren; and her 15
7 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10 her family and friends, the passing of Georgia Silverthorn; and
11 be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Georgia Silverthorn as a symbol of
14 our sincere sympathy.
